CHICAGO -- The 12-year-old girl from Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood who's been battling cancer has passed away.

Emily Beazley died late Monday night, according to family members.

She battled non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma for four years.

As her condition worsened over the last few weeks and months, her friends and family started the ‘Light It Up For Emily’ social media campaign, with many of Chicago’s buildings and homes using green and purple lights to show their support.

They even arranged a phone call with Taylor Swift, when it became apparent that Emily would not be able to go to Swift's concert.

The Chicago Police Department also honored her and her sister as junior police officers.

Her services will be private, but a public memorial is being planned.
