CHICAGO -- The founder of the legendary Superdawg drive-ins has passed away.
Maurie Berman opened his first Superdawg on the Northwest Side in 1948, in the 6300 block of North Milwaukee.
He went on to open a second location in Wheeling.
Berman's son says his father died Sunday morning of heart problems.
He was 89-years-old.
Aside from his son, he also leaves behind a wife, Flaurie Berman, two other children, five grandchildren and a 6-year-old great-grandchild, who had her first shift at the restaurant last week.
Both Superdawg locations will be closed Tuesday in Maurie's memory.
