FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina woman who is expected to give birth soon is undergoing treatment for rabies after she and her 6-year-old son were attacked by a fox outside their home.
According to WTVD, Ashley Kotchetov and her son, Alex, were attacked by the fox while walking to the car to get his book-bag.
The mother said she then fought off the animal with the bag.
“I fought the fox off and managed to get my son to the truck because the fox was between us and the doorway,” Kotchetov told WTVD. “So we barricaded ourselves and sat on top of the truck for about 15 minutes while the fox gnawed my son’s book bag.”
WTVD reports Kotchetov was not bitten, but did come in contact with the fox’s saliva when she picked up the bag. She said her doctor told her she was at greater risk of getting rabies than the vaccine hurting her unborn child.
The neighborhood has since posted fliers warning residents of the attack.
