81-year-old great-grandmother wounded in South Side shooting

CHICAGO -- A great-grandmother and one of her grandchildren were wounded in a shooting on Chicago’s South Side Friday.

81-year-old Lola Buress was attending visitation for her late daughter at a funeral home near 78th and Carpenter in the Gresham neighborhood.

The family returned home around the corner to relax on the front porch when someone drove by and opened fired. Iola was struck in her wrist and abdomen. Her 34-year-old grandson, Sylvester, was struck in the hip.

They were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
