CHICAGO -- A mother on the far South Side has lost a second son to gun violence in Chicago in less than a year.

20-year-old Shamari Salter and two friends were sitting in a car near 107th and Wentworth Wednesday night, when someone drove up and opened fire.

Salter died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

Another man also died, he has not been identified.

A third man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Salter's mother says he was out shopping, getting ready to take a neighbor to prom.

She talked to him just before the shooting and he told her he was on his way home.

Witnesses saw two men drive off.

No arrests have been made.

Another member of this same family, a female cousin, was shot and killed on a bus a couple of years ago.

Gun violence? Odds are it is gang violence. Lots of guns in my neighborhood. We just don’t use them to shoot each other. People kill people. Guns don’t kill anyone. I have sit in a room and watched several of them for days. The guns did not shoot one person.. Blame the police? Odds are nobody saw a thing and knows nothing… as usual
