CHICAGO — Showers and thunderstorms will spread over the Chicago area Monday morning as a warm front lifts north into Wisconsin and a cold front approaches from the west. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms – mainly in northwest Indiana during the late morning and early to mid-afternoon hours (see dark-green-shaded area on severe weather outlook map above).
The cold front is forecast to move east through the Chicago area later this morning/early afternoon, with showers/thunderstorms ending from the west behind the front. Instability and convergence ahead of and along the front will be enhanced by mid-day/afternoon heating – boosting the chances of severe thunderstorm development mainly in northwest Indiana.
