GARY, Ind. -- A gas station employee was attacked by a mob of young people in Gary as he left work.

Police say the 42-year-old man from Merrillville was surrounded by about a dozen kids who came from all directions late Thursday night. Most of them are thought to be teenagers, but some of them may be as young as 10-years-old.

Saleh Mohamed, who identified himself as a fellow employee and friend, identified the man as 42-year-old Yahiya Alkalab.

They knocked the man down, beat him and robbed him.

Surveillance video shows the kids inside the gas station at 2295 Grant Street earlier that night, then returning to wait for the man to leave at about 10:45 p.m.

The man has suffered a fractured skull. He was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he is now being treated.

Police have not said if they made any arrests, but they are still looking for at least some of the attackers.

Good luck finding criminals in Gary. My dad, who owned a gas station, was shot and killed years ago in Gary. The Gary police never found the horrible people who committed the crime.

I could never see me or my siblings doing something like that because my parents taught us about respect and I taught my three kids the same thing…those are lost kids with no positive role model in their lives and it’s really sad!!

Double-sticky for the media: Muslamic victim (ideal story– America is a bigoted anti-Islamic country) PROBLEM: The anti-Muslamics are black. Uh-oh. Hmm. Anyway, note how the media ALWAYS do these things (while avoiding saying “black” at all cost) : Toss the story to a black reporter (for humanization / contrast) and/or add the street interview of an outraged black ( humanization / contrast). It’s standard operating procedure.
