CROWN POINT, Ind. -- A search is underway for a father from Crown Point who's been missing for nearly a week.
Friends, family, police, and fire are looking for 23-year old Michael Hernandez. They gathered at the Lake County Fairgrounds to start their search, were given maps, and then fanned out in-and-around Crown Point.
A group of 150 volunteers began their search in Roselawn, in Jasper County Indiana, where a ping on Hernandez's cell phone was detected last Friday. Then they believe his phone died. The search over a two mile radius turned up nothing.
Now the group is in nearby Demotte where there may have been a sighting of Hernandez's 2008 blue Scion hatchback. It's also an area where he has family. They're checking on foot in wooded areas and in cars hoping to find a trace of the young husband and father of two year old twin girls.
Hernandez was last seen at the Safe House Bar and Grill in Crown Point on Friday night. His mother claims he called to say he would be home shortly, but when she got up Saturday morning, he wasn't there.
Hernandez was last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans, black shoes and a Blackhawks cap. He's 5'8", 165 pounds and has a tattoo of an Indian with a full headdress on his left arm.
