CHICAGO – No one was injured but two vehicles, including an ambulance, were struck in a shooting Thursday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Neither the two-man crew nor the patient were hurt and the ambulance was able to continue with the patient to the hospital.

The side window of the ambulance was broken by a bullet.

Police say a dark gray Toyota Corolla was also hit but no one inside was injured. Both of the car’s front windows were blown out.

It’s not known if either vehicle was the intended target.

Authorities shut down the two right lanes of the expressway and fanned out across them forming a line of officers searching for shell casing and any other physical evidence. Troopers searched from 18th St all the way to 41st to make sure they gave the roadway a thorough search before re-opening it to rush-hour traffic.

No one is in custody.
