2 gang members convicted in murder of 6-year-old girl in Little Village
CHICAGO — Two gang members have been convicted in the death of a 6-year-old girl in Little Village.
Juan Barraza and Luis Hernandez were charged with a gang shooting in 2012 that killed 6-year-old Aliyah Shell.
Shell and her mother were sitting on her front porch when Barraza and Hernandez drove by and fired several shots into her home, hoping to kill a rival gang member.
Shell’s family and young friends packed the Cook County courtroom Tuesday, wearing purple shirts in honor of Shell’s favorite color.
They say they wanted to be there to help bring closure to the tragedy.
Both Barraza and Hernandez admit that they saw several small children sitting in front of the home before they opened fire.
