At least 4 killed in string of shootings
CHICAGO – It’s only May 2nd and things are already heating up on the City’s south and west sides. At least four people have been killed in the past 24 hours hours.
The latest victim is a 26-year-old man. He was gunned down in the Gresham neighborhood just after 10 p.m. last night. Police say they found him lying on a sidewalk in the 7900 block of South Aberdeen. He has not been identified by name, but his older brother works for Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church.
Father Pfleger was at the scene shortly after the shooting, encouraging people living in communities affected by the violence to stand up and speak out.
“This is absolutely crazy. We can’t tolerate this. There has to be outrage on every block. We’ve got to be as outraged about this as we are about Ferguson and what’s going on in Baltimore or any place else,” remarked Pfleger. “The killing of our kids is unacceptable. Whether it’s by a cop or whether it’s by another brother on the street – it’s got to stop.”
Police are still investigating two other shootings – both in the Lawndale neighborhood. One is believed to be gang-related.
