Man shot after charging at police officer

CHICAGO — Police shot a man after they say he and two other men robbed a person at gunpoint on the South Side.

It began just after 3 a.m. Friday in the South Loop.

Officers were responding to a cell phone robbery on Cermak and State when the 3 offenders took off in a Sedan.

Officers tracked them down at 43rd and Parnell.

Police say when they approached, one of the suspects got out and charged.

The officer’s gun went off.

Police haven’t said whether it was intentionally fired at the suspect.

He took off, but was later found at Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds to his chest and arm.

All three suspects are in custody.
