CHICAGO -- Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart announces on Friday the launch of a new mental health clinic as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Dart unveiled the plan at a rally at the Sheriff's Mental Health Transition Center at 28th and Rockwell. This was the second annual "Rally for Courage."

The new clinic is located at the Markham Courthouse. It will accept low-level misdemeanor offenders to undergo treatment programs.

Nine months ago, the county jail's Mental Health Transition center opened, which offers job skills training.

Dart believes the Cook County Jail is the largest mental health institution in the U.S.
