2 men charged with shooting at off-duty police officer

CHICAGO — Two men have been charged with shooting at an off-duty police officer in Humboldt Park.

Authorities say Gustavo VillaGomez, 27, and Kevin Martinez, 20, approached the officer’s car Thursday night, as it was stopped at a red light In the 2600 block of West Division Street.

They say the men shouted gang slogans at the officer, who told them he was an officer.

Police say the men fired two shots in the officer’s direction, as he drove off.

The officer drove to the Shakespeare District station and gave a description of the two men, who were then found and arrested.

VillaGomez and Martinez are expected in Cook County Bond Court on Sunday.
