CHICAGO –A Freeze Warning (shown in the purple-shaded area in the map above) calling for temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s for the entire Chicago area will take effect late tonight.

The warning will take effect 2 a.m. Thursday morning and continue until 8 a.m.

As skies clear and winds diminish overnight,  temperatures will fall out of the 40s through the 30s, eventually reaching the 20s over much of the area Thursday morning.

Because of milder temperatures earlier this month, plants have progressed or developed faster than normal, and  several species may be vulnerable to temperatures in the 25- to 30-degree range anticipated for at least 6 hours from the early morning to mid-morning hours this coming Thursday morning.

These conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation.
