CHICAGO — Funeral services for famed chef Homaro Cantu will be held this afternoon at Saint Viator Parish on West Addison Street.

Cantu was the owner of Moto restaurant in the west loop and cafe Berrista on Irving Park Road.

He was planning to open a new brewery in the 4400 block of West Montrose .  That’s where his body was found earlier this week. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a suicide.

Cantu, whose friends called him “Omar,” worked in acclaimed chef Charlie Trotter’s kitchen for four years (1999-2003) before becoming Moto’s opening chef in 2004 and later an owner. Moto has been honored with one Michelin star since the 2012 guide.  Moto alumni plan to open the restaurant on Saturday.  A note on the door of Berrista said it would be close for a week.

Cantu leaves behind a wife and two children.
