Severe storms bring hail, power outages to Chicago area

CHICAGO --Severe weather moved into the area late Wednesday night.

Small pea to dime size hail was spotted falling on parts of the North Side as a wave of thunderstorms rolled into the city.

Hail that size doesn't cause much damage; experts say hail bigger than an inch in size is what causes damage to property in this type of weather.

Power was knocked out to hundreds of customers in Berwyn, but service has been restored. ComEd says they continue to work on scattered outages throughout the area.

In addition to hail, tornadoes are possible throughout northwest Illinois, including Chicago area
