Teacher faces decades in prison after allegedly having sex with 3 students
POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A teacher in Florida is facing decades in prison after pleading guilty to 37 counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact with a Minor after she allegedly had sex with multiple students, getting pregnant by one.
According to WFLA, Jennifer Fichter, 30, is accused of having sexual relations with three of her former students at Central Aerospace Academy (map). She was fired after her arrest, according to the report. She recently changed her plea to guilty, and each charge carries a maximum of 15 years in prison.
According to the Daily Mail, Fichter was initially arrested last year after the mother of a student found intimate text messages from the teacher on her son’s phone.
The mother later called the teacher and recorded the conversation for investigators, according to reports. In the conversation, the teacher allegedly said she had become pregnant with the teen’s child and had had an abortion. She also said she was in love with the student and wanted to continue seeing him, the Daily Mail reported.
The student was 17 at the time.
Two more students then came forward, according to reports.
The Daily Mail reported that before teaching at the Space Academy, Fichter had resigned from her job at a middle school after it was reported she had feelings for an eighth-grade student.
According to WFLA, Fichter’s sentencing will take place in July.
WFLA reports Fichter still faces additional similar charges in Hillsborough County, Fla., where some of the sexual acts with the teens occurred.
