CHICAGO -- O’Hare’s Terminal Two was transformed Tuesday into O’Hare Kitchen Stadium.

Five finalists from around the country used a protein, a starch and vegetable to whip up an original dish on the spot as part of the first ever “Channel Your Inner Chef” amateur cooking competition.

Using an herbal ingredient from O’Hare’s own garden was also part of the rules.

Competitors had 30 minutes to cook and plate their dishes for a panel of judges including local political and business leaders.  The judge were looking for great taste, technique, showmanship and presentation - among other things.

The chef’s handiwork was watched meticulously by a large crowd of guests - and perplexed airport passengers.

The winner gets their dish added to the menu at one of O’Hare’s eateries.  They also get to tickets to the James Beard Foundation awards in Chicago next month.
