CHICAGO — A pair of shoes Michael Jordan wore as a rookie with the Chicago Bulls will be up for auction next month.

The Chicago Tribune reports the pre-Air Jordan Nikes will be auctioned by SCP Auctions beginning April 8th.

The shoes are expected to go for at least $50,000, the auction house said.

The Tribune says a former ball boy approached Jordan during his pre-game warmups and asked him for the shoes he was wearing. But Jordan was breaking in those shoes – ones which ESPN reports would become the first Air Jordans. For that game, Jordan wore a different pair; the pair that is up for auction. “The auctioneers estimate that these were some of the last regular Nikes that Jordan wore before switching to Air Jordans full time,” the Tribune says.

The Tribune also says after the game, Jordan signed each shoe and gave them to the ball boy,” who kept them in his or his mother’s closet for more than 30 years before contacting the auction house.”

SCP will host the auction online from April 8-25.
