(CHICAGO) -- Teams in the playoff hunt in the NHL's Western Conference are simultaneously driving toward the top while keeping an eye on the rearview mirror.
The Chicago Blackhawks are squarely in the middle of both lanes. With 83 points, the Hawks are 4th in the Western Conference and 3rd in the Central Division, just four points behind the St. Louis Blues and 6 points behind first place Nashville. But the Blackhawks need to hold off the red-hot Minnesota Wild who sit just 4 points behind Chicago and the Winnipeg Jets just 5 points back and currently occupying the final wild card spot.
The Blackhawks escaped what would have been a lousy loss Friday by coming back to beat the last-place Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in a shootout. The Hawks stay home Sunday night hosting the New York Rangers in an Original Six showdown at 6:30 p.m. on NBC.
