CHICAGO — Chicago’s retired Francis Cardinal George is expected to be released from the hospital Saturday.
He's been at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood since Sunday, undergoing tests to evaluate his condition.
George was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2006, which has spread to his kidney and liver. He stopped an experimental treatment more than a month ago, because it wasn't working.
He plans to rest at home once he's released.
George stepped down as leader of Chicago’s more than 2 million Roman Catholics in November. Blase Cupich became Chicago’s archbishop.
