THOMSON, Ill. — A businessman says he wants his products to feed the prisoners of Illinois.

Schafer’s Fisheries is in Thomson, which is on the far Northwest Side of the state.

Owner, Mike Schafer, says his carp would be a perfect option for state penitentiaries.

For a few years they’ve been experimenting how to make hot dogs and bologna out of carp.

Schafer is now seeking a contract to serve his fish to prisoners.

He says it’s a win-win because his foods are cheaper, more nutritious and tastes pretty similar to regular hot dogs and bologna.
