CHICAGO --The Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower, is up for sale and may have a new owner soon.
The current owners of the 110-story building are reportedly in negotiations with a potential buyer, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Originally named The Sears Tower, it was completed in 1973 and held the title of world's tallest building for 23 years.
It's current name, The Willis Tower, was adopted in 2009. Willis Group Holdings holds the naming rights until 2025, but do not own the building.
The building is 84% leased and is home to United Airlines' global headquarters. It's also an international tourist destination.
The owners hope to capitalize on a strong real estate market.
The tower could fetch one and a half billion dollars.
That’s almost twice what the owners paid for it.
