BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Police in Alabama are investigating a shooting that left one 14-year-old girl dead and at least two others wounded after they went to a park to settle a quarrel started over Facebook.
According to WBRC, police in Birmingham, Ala., said the shooting occurred Friday evening. Officers responded to a park at around 6 p.m., where gunmen had opened fire on a group of at least three teens. One of the victims, identified as Kierra’onna Rice, was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead.
Police told WBRC the incident started with a fight between several girls on Facebook. They said that a group of teens wanted to record themselves fighting, so they could post the video to social media, according to the report.
After the girls went to the park and the fight began, police said two black males, ages 17 and 19, pulled out guns and began firing at the girls.
Suspects were then taken into custody.
According to WBRC, police believe one of the suspects was dating the victim.
WBRC reports investigators are still trying to sort out the details of the fight.
