CHICAGO -- At Comer Children's Hospital, Saturday was a day that 8-year-old Skylar Animashan has been waiting on for years.
She was set to undergo scalp scar revision surgery to fix a bald spot.
Skylar’s mom said because the surgery was considered cosmetic, their insurance wouldn't cover the costs.
Skylar was one of six children getting one kind of plastic surgery or another Saturday as part of the Fresh Start Caring For Kids Foundation, which provides surgical and medical care at no cost for children with congenital and acquired deformities.
More than 50 plastic surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists and other clinicians are part of the volunteer team at Comer’s.
