CHICAGO-- The future is just six weeks away and the runoff campaign is already heating up.
Latinos for Rahm, throwing their support behind the mayor in the morning. Leaders of the city council progressive caucus backing Chuy Garcia in the afternoon.
Jesus “Chuy” Garcia: "Remember that in the election of Tuesday, I didn't have many elected officials stand with me. That will change as we move forward."
And there appear to be other factors at play since Tuesday night. The Sun-Times reporting Governor Bruce Rauner has been lobbying businessman Willie Wilson, who came in third in the mayoral race, to endorse Rahm Emanuel.
“MWAHahaha! Willie Wilson’s his own person. I don’t know what he’s gonna do” The governor brushed the whole thing off with a very awkward laugh and a weak explanation saying he talks to Wilson almost every day but is staying out of the race for mayor.
Unlike a lot of other politicians…
Alderman Danny Solis, 25th Ward: “I congratulate commissioner Garcia, He did a tremendous job, it makes me proud. But I just don’t think this is his time.”
Job creation, education, red light cameras, pension debt-- so many tough issues facing the city.
No time, the mayor’s backers say, for on-the-job training.
Susana Mendoza, City Clerk, Latinos for Rahm: “He has proven that not just in his speeches or what he says he’s going to do- but more importantly, what he has actually done over the last four years.”
