Plainfield HS teacher accused of sexually assaulting student: Cops

PLAINFIELD, Ill.-- A Plainfield High School teacher is accused of engaging in a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student.

Brian D. Smith, 32, has been charged with Criminal Sexual Assault following the mid-February incident that took place in a storage room at Plainfield High School-Central.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, Smith and the student had been communicating through various social media applications for approximately one month prior to the alleged sexual encounter.

Some of the messages were sexual in nature and included both text messages and photographs.

An acquaintance of the student notified authorities shortly after the incident took place.

According to police, at this time it is believed that only one sexual encounter occurred between the student and Smith.

Smith was interview by police and confessed to the encounter, according to the Plainfield Police Department. He was booked on one charge of Criminal Sexual Assault.

The investigation is ongoing and Smith is being held at the Will County Detention Facility. Bail has been set at $600,000.
