KALAMA, Wash. — A man posing for a selfie was struck and killed by an Amtrak train as he and a woman posed for a photo on the railroad tracks.

Police say the man stopped along the Kalama River to smoke and take pictures with the woman on the tracks.

As the train approached the two at about 10:28 a.m. Saturday, the man “walked out between the northbound and southbound set of train tracks to pose for pictures as the train passed by him,” said Charlie Rosenzweig, a Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputy.

The two didn’t realize an Amtrak train was approaching them from the southbound set of tracks,¬†Rosenzweig told The Oregonian.

The train struck the man as he posed for the selfie photo, and he died at the scene. The woman was uninjured, according to KSTW.

The railroad told KSTW that more than 30 trespassers were fatally injured after being struck by trains in 2013 and 2014 on its tracks in Washington.
