Wind Chill Advisory in effect 6 p.m. tonight into Thursday

CHICAGO — A Wind Chill Advisory (light blue-shaded area on map above)  for dangerous wind chills -20 to -30 degrees will be in effect for the entire Chicago area from 6PM CST this Wednesday evening until noon CST Thursday. Exposed skin will be susceptible to frostbite within a few minutes under these circumstances.

The center of bitter cold Arctic high pressure will move southeast out of the northern plains today over the Midwest and western Great Lakes, including the Chicago area tonight and Thursday. Northwest winds 12 to 24 miles per hour will combine with temperatures falling into the -5 to -10-degree range to give the -20 to -30-degree wind chills. Note back to our northwest, Wind Chill Advisories for wind chills in the -30 to -40-degree range are in effect this morning for portions of the Dakotas and Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin.

Winter Weather Advisories (purple-shaded area on map above)for heavy lake-effect snow showers are in effect today, tonight, and Thursday for LaPorte County Indiana north along the western Lower Michigan counties adjacent to Lake Michigan. Three to six-inches of snow may fall over portions of LaPorte County with greater amounts up to and over 8-inches farther north along and inland of the the Lower Michigan  Lake Michigan shoreline.
