JOLIET, Ill -- A Joliet animal rescue is asking for the public’s help in finding a stolen puppy.

Someone made off with the dog yesterday, stealing her from an area for quarantined animals at Hopeful Tails Animal Rescue.

The 8-week-old shih tzu was just brought in from Kentucky. The tiny dog has a respiratory infection and had just started a course of antibiotics. If she doesn’t get back on her meds, could be dead within days.

A volunteer on her way out of the shelter Monday passed two men on their way in and thought nothing of it until learning the quarantined pup had disappeared.

A witness reports seeing two African-American men around 20-years-old getting into a car in the parking lot with the dog and two other men.

Staff at the shelter say they don’t care if anyone’s arrested, they just want the puppy back, no questions asked, so they can save her life.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Joliet police non-emergency at 815-724-3100 or Hopeful Tails 815-823-2174.
