Carrie was appointed to the position of alderman of the 34th ward by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1994 to fulfill the unexpired term of her late husband, Lemuel Austin. In the City Council, she serves as the chairman of the  Committee on the Budget & Government Operations.

Shirley White

Shirley White has been a resident of the 34th Ward for more than 40 years. She attended Chicago Public Schools and is a graduate of Chicago State University. White supports a local action committee working to eliminate red light cameras and speed cameras in Chicago. She volunteers for Crime Stoppers and held the position as president of Racine-Throop 110th Block Club for several years. If elected, Shirley says accountability, accessibility, honesty and transparency will be the foundation of her tenure.
