CHICAGO — The son of former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson died of a brain tumor Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Peterson played with the Bears from 2002-2009. He later went on to play in the United Football League.

Peterson’s son A.J. was battling  Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a type of brain tumor, according to Sporting News.

Peterson announced his son’s passing on his Facebook page.

Peterson and his family had previously set up a GoFundMe page for A.J.

“Man– I have no idea why God chose us to endure this; did he? Did He pluck me up amongst the many flowers in the grassy field? Did He even ‘allow’ this? I don’t know but what I do believe is, there is a purpose even our darkest moments,” Peterson had previously written on the page.

Do not let your faith waiver. Believe in his ultimate plan. You will see your son again. May God’s strength be with you & your family and may you feel his presence at this sad time. You are loved.

Perhaps there is no god and this happened because cancer happens. If that isnt the case then your god turns out to be quite the jerk.

Your assessment that cancer happens is just brilliant! Did you figure that out by yourself, or did you have some help? Lucky for you, inhaling and exhaling is reflexive, otherwise it would be a little too complicated for your brilliant mind to grasp.

My heart, mind, and prayers are with you and your family. Loss of a loved one is extremely painful and humbling. His word says the enemy cones to steal, kill, and destroy. Cancer is a demon for sure, BUT we also know that earth is not our true home and we’re passing through. Although your son is a little boy, he is a MAN in the fight he endured. Now he’s gone to make a home in heaven where you will meet again. In time your peace will come, be strong.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the AP family. Remember even in this dark hour that “God is good all the time and all the time God is good.”

RIP and say hi to god for me. Meet you on the flip side
