Cold-related deaths climb in Cook County

COOK COUNTY, Ill. — A minimum of 18 people in Cook County have died, at least partly, from the cold weather so far this winter.

The latest victim is 49 year-old Debra Togtman, of Blue Island. She was pronounced dead on Sunday at Metro South Medical Center. Her death was ruled an accident.

Another possible cold-related death case is pending.

Last winter, the county had 32 cold-related deaths.
