Lake-effect snow plume weakens as it shifts towards the Chicago shoreline.

Mainly sunny inland, but some snow showers develop lakeside where local accumulations of an inch or two are possible.

A bitterly cold start to the day with lows ranging from 12 below well inland to around 0 downtown.

Wind chills to minus 30. Highs struggle to the middle teens about 20 degrees below normal.

Gusty north winds ease and become northeast.

Partly cloudy, cold overnight. Lows 5 below inland to 5° downtown.
