Michelle Harris

Michelle Harris is the incumbent alderman for Chicago’s 8th Ward. Harris grew up and attended school on the city’s South Side. She later earned a bachelor’s degree from Chicago State University. Harris was also chief of staff under former Ald. Lorraine Dixon and was 8th Ward Streets and Sanitation Superintendent. She was also secretary to the Cook County Board of Commissioners for three years.

Faheem Shabazz

Faheem Shabazz has been a resident of the South Side’s 8th Ward for more than 30 years. His family moved to Chicago from North Carolina in the 1970s. Shabazz attended Lane Tech High School and Cain’s Barber College. He currently works as a barber stylist and real estate consultant. Shabazz has been involved with multiple anti-violence and youth movements around the city in the past.

Tara Baldridge

Tara Baldridge grew up in Louisiana, but spent her summers on Chicago’s South Side, with family in Englewood and in the 8th Ward. She attended the University of Chicago and received a bachelor’s degree in general studies in the humanities. Baldridge also received a Master of Fine Arts from Roosevelt University. She has volunteered in neighborhood schools around the South Side as a tutor, and is a past community member of the South East Chicago Chamber of Commerce.
