CHICAGO -- U.S. Senator Dick Durbin endorsed incumbent Rahm Emanuel for mayor Sunday during an event that highlighted the city's STAR scholarship, which aims to provide certain high-testing CPS students with opportunities for associate degrees at City Colleges of Chicago at no cost.
“Everyone who works with Rahm knows that he's a hard-charging guy, but that energetic personality is always rooted in a desire to not waste a minute to improve the lives of the people he serves,” Senator Durbin said, according to a statement released Sunday.
Mayor Emanuel will be up for re-election on Feb. 24 during Chicago's municipal election. His challengers have highlighted school closures as a low point of the mayor’s administration.
