FRANKFORT, Mich. — A Coast Guard station rescued a dog from icy waters in Michigan, according to reports and a video depicting the save.

NBC News reports the responders in Frankfort, Mich., came to the rescue after the dog jumped into a channel and fell through a sheet of ice at Betsie Lake.

“The dog went straight down and was in the water,” Tim Putnam, one of the rescuers, told NBC.

The crew reportedly then took the dog to Benzie County Animal Shelter in Beulah, Mich.

The shelter is currently looking for the dog’s owner, as the animal did not have an identification tag. An officer at the shelter told NBC that Putnam has first dibs to adopting the dog if no owner comes forward by Feb. 10.
