CHICAGO — Money needed to subsidize day care programs around Illinois is running out.

The Department of Human Services announced it’s short nearly $300 million to fund the program through June.

Officials say payments will be late starting this month.

It’s unclear whether Governor Bruce Rauner’s new budget proposal will include funds for the popular subsidy.

Rauner has said solving the state’s financial crisis will require “sacrifice” from all Illinoisians.
