CHICAGO -- Union Station will get a big makeover.

Amtrak plans to spend $12 million renovating and redesigning the station's passenger concourse areas.

The south concourse frequently gets overcrowded when there are train delays. Amtrak plans to fix that, by creating a more efficient system of traffic control.

The station will also get some long needed safety improvements and repairs to its façade; and the aging marble steps to the station's Great Hall will be replaced.
