Teen fatally stabbed at Los Angeles middle school

LOS ANGELES -- Authorities are looking for a suspect after a 14-year-old high school student was fatally stabbed in front of a nearby middle school.

According to KTLA, the victim was identified by friends as Steven Cruz, 14. He was found with a stab wound on the steps of David Wark Griffith Junior High School in Los Angeles. Cruz reportedly attended James A. Garfield High School, about half a mile away.

It is not known yet if the attacker attended either school, or why Cruz was seen at the middle school.

According to KTLA, the stabbing occurred just as school was letting out.

Initial reports, including KTLA's, indicated the boy was stabbed with a pair of scissors, but according to multiple reports, sheriff's deputies say the object that was used has not yet been determined.

According to reports, multiple witnesses saw the attack.

UPDATE: KTLA reported Saturday a 13-year-old has been arrested in connection with the stabbing. The teen has not yet been identified.
