Fans, players pay tribute to Ernie Banks on social media

With news of the passing of Ernie Banks at the age of 83, many took to Twitter to give their condolences and remembrances of the one-and-only “Mr. Cub.”

From celebrities, to former and currently players, to the reporters covering the game for years, there was an outpouring of support for the man many deemed one of the classiest ever in the game.

There is no word yet on the cause of Banks’ death. Banks hit 512 home runs during his 19-year career. One of his famous phrases, beckoned from his boundless enthusiasm for the game, was, “Let’s play two!”
