CHICAGO — Surveillance video captures a shoot-out between a Cook County sheriff’s officer and two robbery suspects in the Roscoe Village neighborhood.

It happened in an alley around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wolcott and Belmont.

The security company, VinTech, is located about a block away from the scene, and its surveillance cameras recorded some of the exchange of gunfire.

Witnesses say an off duty Cook County sheriff's officer was playing poker on the north side late Wednesday night when he was robbed.

When he stepped outside, two men wearing masks confronted him. The suspects stole his money and some other items. One of the suspects opened-fire, and the officer fired his service weapon.

A bullet even went into a school across the street.

Chicago police and the Cook County sheriff's office confirm the robbery and the fact that one of the victims has worked at the cook county jail for 21 years. He was robbed of cash and his cell phone. But no one would confirm the poker activity inside... no one except our witnesses, that is. one who didn't want to be identified.

The officer was not hurt, and no word on if the suspects were injured.

Authorities are still looking for the men responsible.

By the close of business Thursday--the city of Chicago determined something illegal was going on inside. Orange stickers went up and the doors were locked.

No word on whether the cook county sheriff's officer is being investigated.
