CHICAGO -- Cameras on cops arrive in Chicago Wednesday, thanks to a pilot program announced by the mayor Tuesday.

At a South Side community center that serves at risk-youth, Mayor Rahm Emanuel was introduced by Cleopatra Pendleton, mother of Hadiya, the teenager shot to death two years ago.

The mayor laid out his plan to bring safety and security to all Chicago neighborhoods. Two new points are to graduate 350 new police recruits this year, and to begin a pilot program Wednesday that eventually puts body cameras on all Chicago police officers.

30 police officers in the 14th district will start wearing cameras clipped to their outer garments or to their glasses, goggles or head gear.

McCarthy said it will clear up any he-said, she-said issues between officers and people with whom they come in contact.

Meanwhile, alderman and mayoral candidate Bob Fioretti says with this announcement, the mayor is now pandering to the people he has neglected over the last four years.

At a city club meeting this afternoon, County Commissioner and mayoral candidate Jesus Garcia also said the mayor's crime initiatives aren't working and that he's out of touch with Chicago neighborhoods.
