ROME — Pope Francis wants couples to be responsible in the bedroom without using contraceptives.
The pope stands by church teachings that ban artificial contraception, but he says that doesn’t mean families should have as many children as possible.
“Some think that, excuse my expression, that in order to be good Catholics they have to be like rabbits. No! Responsible parenthood!” Pope Francis said in an impromptu news conference on the papal plane.
Instead, he recommends couples use natural family planning, which uses a woman’s cycle to determine fertility.
