CHICAGO -- Chicago Police are warning Albany Park business owners on North Kedzie Avenue after a series of burglaries in the neighborhood.
Four incidents have damaged stores in the last few weeks. The most recent happened at Mounsef International, a Middle Eastern grocery that has been a fixture in the 4700 block of North Kedzie for 30 years.
Two more burglaries happened two blocks north, one at 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 and another at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 8. The first occurred at 6 a.m. on New Year's Eve in the 4500 block of North Kedzie.
Police say all four burglaries were carried out by someone wearing dark clothing with a covered face. The burglar shattered front doors or windows with a brick or a concrete block.
At Chicago Home Furniture, owners are concerned. But, they say burglars shouldn't come here; customers pay by credit, so they have no cash -- and their merchandise is difficult to carry.
Police advise business owners to equip stores with video surveillance equipment and turn on their alarms. Mounsef says the burglar dropped what could be a key piece of evidence.
