PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Kentucky authorities say two teenage sweethearts suspected in a crime spree of stolen vehicles and pilfered checks across the South have been apprehended in Florida.

Grayson County Sheriff officials say in a statement that 18-year-old Dalton Hayes and his 13-year-old girlfriend, Cheyenne Phillips, were arrested without incident about 12:10 a.m. Sunday in Panama City Beach. The two had eluded police in multiple states while raising concern about their increasingly bold behavior.

Hayes and Phillips began their run from the law and their families earlier this month when they vanished from their small hometown in western Kentucky. Authorities believe their travels took them to South Carolina and Georgia.

The girl claimed she was 19. Hayes’ mother said by the time her son realized she was only 13, he was in love.

Ummm….Im almost positive he knew she was 13. that’s an old line….used for centuries. love is love, especially “puppy love” . and since we have so many kids flanking out in school you will see even more of these “teen romances” . unfortunately many parents are very aware of whats going on, but it’s easier to just let it go. Until trouble starts or they run away like this on a crime spree as lovers. Then one of the parents will pretend they thought the child was much older. I’m not blaming the parents!!!! I’m saying taxpayers money is being wasted arresting people for being with some one underage period unless it was a done with force, coersion, and malice. we have many TRUE predators out there and we waste money on teenage romances!!!
