A pregnant woman with cancer reportedly refused treatment to help save her unborn child.

The mother, Ashley Bridges, told CNN she was diagnosed with bone cancer after she went to the hospital with excruciating pain in her knee. Bridges underwent knee replacement surgery, but when doctors brought up chemotherapy to her, they said it would be a big risk: Bridges was, according to CNN, 10 weeks pregnant, and were she to undergo chemo, the baby might not survive.

“I’m not going to kill a healthy baby because I’m sick,” she told CNN, so she declined the treatment. She gave birth to a healthy baby, but Bridges’ health deteriorated, and her cancer reportedly has spread through her body and into her brain.

Doctors told Bridges she had months to live. She said she hopes to live long enough for her child’s first birthday.
