MONEE, Ill. -- The funds came in one meal at a time, as the crowds grew at Culver’s in Monee, Ill.

The reasons for giving were evident in the photos of the four high school friends -- Anthony, Jeremy, Jason and Ron --- still fighting for their lives, and the fifth, Derek Bryant, whose memory was honored.

Like so many things in these small suburban communities, it was a group effort to help the families of the four young men who survived a New Year’s Day crash along Route 50 in Kankakee County. Ill.

For the entire day Saturday, Culver’s gave 50 percent of all sales to the fundraiser, while a host of raffles will also provide much needed funds for hefty medical expenses.

For those who went to school with the boys, the event was a lesson of supporting others through a tough time.
