Justin Haney was 18 years old when his life was cut short at the hands of a gunman -- and his family doesn't understand why.

Haney grew up in Country Club Hills , well-known in the neighborhood by his nickname, "Mace."

He spent most of his high school years at Rich Central, but finished his senior year in Peoria, where his biological mother lived.

Haney completed the fall semester of his freshman year at Southern Illinois University. A school spokesperson says he wasn't enrolled for spring, but his family said Haney was planning to go back school/

They said he should have been going back next weekend, but Friday night, police were responding to a call of shots fired when a resident informed them of a person down nearby.

Haney's body was found lying face down in the snow -- not too far from his home, in the 4400 block of 185th Street.

Relatives say he dreamed of becoming a stockbroker.

Police continue to investigate.  Meanwhile, Haney's family is finalizing funeral arrangements. They hope police will find his killer -- soon.

God Bless this young man’s family and I pray that whom ever is responsible for another senseless crime is found quickly.

Sorry for the family’s loss of a man so young, with a promising future, wasted by these cowards who shoot innocent people on the street. I too hope the individuals who are guilty of this crime is arrested and justice prevails.
